Who needs to register for VAT?

There are two ways to register for VAT, it all depends on the turnover of your company.

Mandatory registration

If your company has made a turnover of more than R1 million for any period of 12 months, it is mandatory to register the company for VAT.

Voluntary registration

If the company has had a turnover of more than R50 000 during the last 12 months it can voluntarily register for VAT. This is also the case if the turnover is expected to exceed R50 000 during the next 12 months.
