Why your company needs a public officer at SARS

Everyone asks why a company has to have a public officer registered at SARS.  There are 2 main reasons.  Firstly, SARS needs a contact person.  This person will also be responsible to oversee that the tax returns are submitted and all money due is paid.  The public officer can be one of the directors, or a third party nominated by the directors.  Secondly, if the company does not have a registered public officer, it won’t be able to gain access to Efiling.  This means that no tax returns can be submitted and you won’t be able to request a tax clearance.  All private companies, close corporations and non profit companies need a public officer.  The process to appoint one can take up to 21 days, it is therefore crucial to appoint one as soon as possible.  We can assist to appoint one for only R250.
